We recommend from the age of 12 Uncover the layers of the earth, melt, shape and create for the future. The practices and materials used by Germanas Ermičs and Artas Nīmanis are different, but both are among the most internationally appreciated Latvian designers. What unites them is trust in materiality, however, both follow different life and creative paths. Ermić's "material and color magic" arises from glass, marble and metal - he moves freely between the Netherlands, Latvia and Portugal, as well as between the disciplines of design and visual art. Meanwhile, Nīmanis deconstructs the idea of ​​glass in Latvia and under the auspices of the tableware brand "an&angel" - he breathes the spirit of the presence of nature into each of his works.
How to discover the idea in the material, and is the object itself a new space? The two portrayed characters, Ermich and Niemanis, like Sisyphus, try to roll their stone up the hill in order to create design excellence. Director Lasmane-Brože introduces the work of two contemporary design pioneers behind the scenes – a pink marble quarry inspection and glass grinding, creative experiments and the flourishing of human imagination. For the audience, it is a meditative experience, looking into author's design and industrial design - the lives of Ermić and Nīmanis, no matter how different, always leave an afterthought: every thing, vessel and design element is an idea behind which stands a person who has overcome the struggle with nature, physics and yourself. The documentary work is part of the large-scale project "Latvian Mission", which focuses on internationally recognized Latvians from various fields.
