Sliding intimacy. Going home, to work, to a friend's house, to buy dinner, or maybe even to the cinema. Through the change of seasons, we meet passengers - they drive, sit, wait, get bored, maybe sometimes look less out of the windows than at the small screens, but always reach their destination. Alongside them are kiosk vendors, vegetable and flower sellers, janitors and drivers, whose daily rituals complement the trajectories of travelers' movements. Singing public transport stops as intimate islands of crossing, we see Riga's neighborhoods in an unexpected, moving visual opus of queues.
Director Pakalniņa, together with her long-time collaborator, cameraman Gintas Bēržinus, is returning to RIGA IFF screenings for the fourth time - this time with conceptual signs of time in Zolitūde, Ziepniekalnė, Rumbula, Suži, Jugla, Mežciems and elsewhere. As the director of the film says: "The form of the film is the movement of the camera, looking and seeing without stopping - just like through the window of a bus, trolleybus, tram." The work created in the black-and-white aesthetics, in the filigree perceived everyday mise-en-scenes, continues the focus of the "camera's gaze", which in Pakalniņa's filmography, highlighting the films "Bus" (2004) and "Houses" (2021), creates an ornamental trilogy - in which public transport briefly turns into our refuge. It's a home among strangers, a witty bridge of the cinema.
