Bye Bye Boredom

Recommended from the age of 12 "Feelings are like fireworks - they explode and disappear , when you feel like it," country girl Jackie reviews her week. Her favorite burst of emotion comes from MDMA, which she takes once a week, but this merry-go-round of blue pills can be tamed again with sleeping pills. It's 'fireworks' whenever Jackie feels like it. Together with their best friend Nova, they both reason that what they are doing now will not matter in the future, however, the idle boredom between horses, tractors and the same faces is interrupted by tragedy. When Nova tries drugs provided by local postman Casper at a party, she dies. Young Jackie, full of sadness and guilt, is ready to defy fate and find out what happened on the fateful night. About the neglected young, tired souls - those who yearn for a life that has not yet begun. Dependence, co-dependence and destruction are handled with admirable poise in this picturesque work on the rural landscapes of western Sweden. Director Salina's work, which was shown at the Gothenburg Film Festival, does not contain any pathos, unnecessary shots or parades along thematic highways. In the seemingly simple, unpretentious environment, the spiral of the relationship between the two main characters (played by Kivi Kaslinde and Maja Vāsmane) is like an intimate diary of teenage years - it contains upsurges of feelings, rejections, secrets and the hottest desires that we reveal only to our closest soulmate. One of the brightest works touching on the tender points of adolescence in Northern European cinema of recent years - it resonates deeply and shakes with an honesty that penetrates the viewer's solar plexus.
