Recommended for ages 16+ age The author confusedly avoids the journalist's question whether Johannes is the main character of his novel. The novel by the son of a wealthy shipping tycoon who is fascinated by quantum physics records the mysterious events in the Swiss Alps more than ten years ago. In 1962, he went to a physics congress - where the Iranian scientist planned to present a revolutionary theory of quantum mechanics. However, the physicist unexpectedly disappeared without a trace. As the discovery eludes the five-star resort, lazy skiing rituals, disputes over theories, and Johannes' infatuation with the pianist Karina, who knows as much about him as he does, erupt. The body of another physicist is found, and the idea of a multiverse that lives in Johannes' own consciousness expands: isn't this the only world possible? A metaphysical thriller that combines the rough textures of a B-movie, a theory of everything, a femme fatale, investigators and a physicist with a past whistling in the back of his head in dark, black-and-white landscapes. The white peaks of the Alps in the neo noir film of the German director Kräger (Berlinale winner for "Birth of Mischief" (2020)) resemble pointed teeth that stare at adepts of quantum physics. The work included in the main competition of the Venice Film Festival is the answer of the European cinema tradition to Hitchcock's dowry, with a supernaturally visceral sound world and ambience, intellectual irritations and an expression related in the aesthetic family tree to the Soviet avant-garde work "Hotel "Pie boja įjā alpinista"" (1979) with Uldi Pūcīti. The world that is born in our minds - a multidimensional space of the viewer's labyrinths and cinema references, in which Kubrick's "Sparkle" (1980) also finds its place.
