The beginnings of the group can be traced back to the Second World War, when in the summer of 1941, in a small German town in Kirna, leather factories in the family of a worker and a church choir soloist, a boy named Franz Reuther was born. Saarbrücken, like many places in post-war Germany, was home to countless American military bases. Its inhabitants attracted Franci like a magnet. There was a completely different atmosphere here than with the pedantic and order-loving Germans. And, of course, music. Franci was connected by all that was called "black music" - Sam Cooke, Little Richard and Otis Redding. In the local taverns, where mostly homesick American soldiers congregated, Francis and his repertoire were very popular. Therefore, out of respect for American culture, he introduced himself on stage not as Franci, but as Frankie Farian. , which had been done before. Under the pseudonym Zambi, he transformed the song "Al Capone" by Jamaican artist Prince Buster, popular in the 60s. Later it got the name «Baby Do You Wanna Bump». He sang the vocal parts himself - both the distinctly low male voice, which was processed in the studio, and all the accompaniments in falsetto. In February 1975, this single was released by the Hansa Records company, and the name BONEY M was listed in the column "artist". , confidently conquering the first places of the world music charts.

In the summer of 1977, the band's second album «Love For Sale» was scheduled to be released. As often happens, the promotional singles came out faster - already in May, the song "Ma Baker", which was destined to become the most sold disco song in the history of music, reached the listeners.
"Ma Baker" repeated the success of the previous single "Sunny" - first place German and British polls, but worldwide – eight million copies sold.

At the end of 1977, BONEY M received a whole heap of awards from various music associated organizations including the Carl Allen Award as the most successful band in Great Britain. Since then, BONEY M became an undisputed leader in the development of the disco music genre.
