Program "AMERICAN SKETCHES"
E.EWAZEN, L.LIEBERMAN, R.PETERSON

ILONA MAY (flute), AIGARS RAUMANIS (saxophone), HERTA HANSEN (piano)

"Sketches of America" - an exciting journey through optimistic and virtuosic American music with three laureates of the Great Music Prize - flautist Ilona May, saxophonist Aigar Raumani and pianist Herta Hansen .
The concert program consists of three opuses, which, although they were written in the last thirty years, are very different. ” (1993) says: “The combination of flute, French horn and piano creates a chamber music ensemble with wonderful possibilities in terms of contrasting colors and textures, resulting in a kaleidoscopic world of different moods”, but in this concert program the cycle will be performed for the first time in a saxophone version.

Music critic Alex Ross (The New Yorker) wrote: "Lowell Lieberman is a gourmand among American composers, relishing shimmering chords, delicate lines, and velvety textures that his self-absorbed, intellectually oriented colleagues might be afraid to put on paper." ". Liberman's Trio for flute, alto saxophone and piano, created in 2022, is performed in Latvia for the first time. creating a unique and unforgettable sound - also created wonderful music for such a composition. Peterson does not hide his sense of humor in the music, and he gave the last two parts of the third movement tempo designations - "Tempo de tequila" and "Più tequila".
