Azymuth, one of the most influential bands in Brazil and one of the longest-running in the world, became innovators, creating a completely new sound, combining jazz-funk with samba and creating their own unique genre called "samba doido", which translates means "crazy samba".
They played with practically all the leading musicians in the golden age of Brazilian MPB (Brazilian popular songs), jazz, soul and funk, including George Ben, Milton Nascimento, Tim Mai, Elisa Regin and Marcos Vallée to name a few. It was Marcos Vallée who gave Azymuth their name in 1973 when they recorded the soundtrack for the film "O Fabuloso Fittipaldi". In the same year, Azymuth began recording their now acclaimed demos (1973-75), which were kept in their archives until 2019, when they were released by London label Far Out Recordings. Over the past 50 years since their formation, Azymuth have released over thirty albums and continue to forge ahead, creating, recording and performing with the same energy and enthusiasm with which they began.
