All-encompassing, true love for Alexei Voronsky punishes Anna's motherly duty, and she leaves her son, subjecting herself to a life full of contradictions and torment with her beloved.
Torn by passion and suffering, Anna commits suicide, drowning her tormenting and apparent happiness.
