Estonian Russian Theater guest performances
TOO MUCH SUN
SUGGESTED AGE 14+
Duration: 3 hours (1 intermission)
The musical tells the story of to the fates and creative works of the poets of the beginning of the 20th century. About their friendship and muses, literary discoveries and secrets. The element of the show is creativity, human freedom and imagination, which knows no boundaries. In Esther Bol's play, the biographies of poets and writers and their poetic texts are interwoven - not only the work of Harms, but also of his closest associates. The performance is filled with music - the author of all pieces is Aleksandrs Žedelyov; the songs are also performed by actress Marika Ots. Theatrical "picture", stage design (artist and scenographer - Inga Siliņa), created in a bright circus atmosphere, stylish colorful costumes (costume designer - Baiba Litiņa) create the impression of a sparkling show, behind which the external brilliance hides both sharp life, tears and love ...
According to the authors, this production tells about the feelings of people in today's world. There is a lot of sunshine in each of us. Almost a hundred years ago, poets and young people tried to creatively escape from fear, hide from the horrors of totalitarian times. When the world is engulfed by so many events that are beyond human control, it is left to focus on what can be affected. Often it is the creative side of life - it is this feeling of almost childlike play and fantasy that becomes salvation. It's never scary to play. "I think it's so in line with what we're all doing today when we know what's going on in the world," says the director.
“Very lots of sunshine' is a stage image that resonates with how people feel today. A snapshot in our day of how to keep meaning in life when the ordinary world is changing rapidly. "While we are playing and while the audience is playing with us, time seems to stop - and in this stoppage of time, a little life appears, a little joy that can be someone's salvation," says Dmitry Petrenko.
The show features a new generation of actors, its energy perfectly matched by the characters' amazing love of life, their courage and maximalism. Harms and other poets were criticized and disowned, but they continued to laugh and live in their liberal arts world. No external circumstances could break their desire to live life as a game. They understood this themselves, calling their works "poems you can hide behind". And who among us does not "hide" from adversity, failure and injustice - in the things we truly love?
