I composed this work specifically for actor Eudzhenio Allegi and director Gabriele Vačis. They staged this show and was first shown to the public at the Festival in July 1994. I don't know if it would be fair if I said I had written this work for the theater: I'm not sure about it. Nowadays, when I hold a book, it seems to me that this workshop is an approximate middle ground between theater production and story. I don't know if anyone has the idea of naming such an composition. But it's not that important. I thought it was a story worth telling.

1994. In September,
He said, "You are alive as long as you have a wonderful story and someone you can tell it." He had… a wonderful story. He himself became the story. If you think so, then a crazy story, but so beautiful ...
Alesandro Bariko “1900. Legend of pianist ”
1994. In 2007, Alesandro Bariko, Head of the Italian writer, playwright, journalist, essayist, literary and music critic, intellectual conversation show, was seen by the third composition of "Novecento", which means "a thousands of the twentieth century". However, chronology and calendar have nothing to do with it: the nickname - the nickname of the protagonist, and it is just one of the unusual language hooks for translators who caught this truly wonderful story: captivating, funny, touching, slightly sad ... and inspiring.
1900. On the first day of the year, the Virginia lemon was found in a box of infants. The boy became an outstanding pianist, even though no one had taught him to play. The son of the ocean and the piano had never stepped on the shore, but lived a trip and adventure life: his music was played by Paris and London, Africa and Arctic… Novest was fascinated by the listeners and conjured up their wishes, played "some own notes" and played a musical duel with a musical duel with "Jazz inventor"… He went with his world, which was the ship, but the legend was left.
This play has been staged several times in Italy, San Marino, France and other European countries. In 1998, the film "Legend of the Piano" by Italian director Joseph Torner appeared on the screens with the music of Enio Morikone, which received many awards, incl. "Golden Globe" on the original soundtrack (saundrec). When the book was translated into Russian, Russian actor and director Oleg Menshikov created a mono -show "1900." (2008), which led to a huge interest in critics and audience.
The story of Virginia pianist in Riga was first staged by Dmitry Petrenko: 2016 in Spīķeri the premiere of the concert show "Novesto" was played in which Vestards Šimkus played the role of the pianist, but Kristaps Ķeselis (Latvian National Theater) and Maxim Busel - Russian.
The production at the Riga Russian Theater - is neither a repetition nor the reconstruction of the Dmitry Petrenko project, but a whole new show with a new creative team (although the audience will once again be able to see Maxim Busel); Uldis Marhilevičs will become a pianist. Alesandro Bariko has a lot of shades and allows a wide variety of treatments. The Riga Russian Theater version is another legend of an ocean pianist reading.
Alesandro Bariko was born in Turin in 1958. During his studies, he received a philosophy degree and graduated from the Piano Class of the Conservatoire, published two essays of music, wrote La Repubblica and La Stampa for newspapers, and led conversation shows devoted to literature, music and cinema. His first novel, "Anger Castles," came out in 1991, but in 1993 he became one of the Turin Writers' Workshop's School, or Holden, co -creators of the school, thanks to J. D. Selinger's novel Holden Kolfield, the protagonist of the novel "On the Rye Field".
Currently, Alesandro Bariko's creative biography has 13 novels, several scenarios, a lot of reflections and articles, and the movie "21. lecture ”dedicated to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (2008, Debut Director).
“… The presence of music is felt in all his novels because Bariko has two souls - literary and musical and not separable, like two connected vessels .
Music, Philosophy, Architecture, Painting, History, Literature - Here's where he gets the endless scenes of his composition, where his heroes are born: geniuses and strangers, fantasists and community inventors; All his heroes remain in memory for a long time: Mister Reil and Pekis from "Anger Castles", Erwe Silk from "Silk", Bartlebum and Plason from the "Ocean Sea" and of course Denny Budman T. D. Novesto - the ingenious pianist playing in the middle of the ocean … ”(Natalia Kolesova, translator)
“ This story, which has foreign problems, is almost a fairy tale. There is an unusual pianist who is born and dies on board, never shore. Bariko is focused on the idea, not the style: he starts one phrase from which another image is born, then he passes into a new phrase, and so on. Just like in life. ”
